Today it was announced that the US is hosting a cyclocross world championship for the first time EVER in 2013 (Louisville, KY). This is incredible news and not only legitimizes American cyclocross, but hopefully aids in the possibility of cross becoming a winter Olympic sport. I truly hope that the explosive growth and recognition of cross transfers into mountain bike racing in the near future, at all levels!
*here is a pretty awesome quote from VeloNews about Madison’s super cross scene:
“So, the UCI sprang the masters’ worlds idea after UCI cyclocross coordinator Peter van den Abelee came to watch a USGP weekend in Madison, Wisconsin.
‘Peter came with us to Madison and saw the number of masters racing, and the level of event production,’ Hanscom said. ‘He told us that we were doing something better here for masters than the UCI does for masters worlds currently.'”
