getting excited for one of the best spring classics weekends: racing the H8TR 100/Madison-Basco-Madison on Saturday and watching my favorite spring classic PARIS-ROUBAIX on Sunday (Cancellara!).
I’ve got my Roubaix team jersey (yes that was purchased IN the Roubaix velodrome clubhouse!) and authentic cobblestone ready for good luck:
This will be my third M-B-M attempt; two years ago I entered it for “fun” on a singlespeed I borrowed from a friend and was lucky to finish. Last year I surprised everyone (myself included) by winning the women’s race:
Training has been going well despite my busy schedule and I am feeling really solid on the bike now…since the ice melted the course has been faster than ever but in true Wisconsin form it rained and SNOWED this week. Who knows what surprises the race will hold! Looking forward to having a great time, plus we get to see Pretty Lights later on Saturday night!
Though it’s been snowing, it was in the 70’s last week…which means that some of the trails have opened! Last weekend I enjoyed a few excellent mountain bike rides at the southern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest without knee warmers or long sleeves for the first time this year. The legs felt good, but my arms certainly did not after a good thrashing by the overgrown branches and thorns (we were the first ones out on some of the trails opening day)! Still great to be riding singletrack again…it is pure joy.
Now to watch “A Sunday in Hell” and finish gluing my tubulars (!!) for the mountain bike race season….
