poison ivy 101!

I’m really hoping this doesn’t become a new Labor Day tradition:

For the second year in a row, I’ve gotten myself a horrible case of poison ivy and as you can see above I’ve tried everything….last year my reaction was so bad I had to go to the doctor.  As I don’t have a doctor or insurance anymore I’m hoping to get through the misery on my own.

Jewel weed spray helps relieve some of the pain, but strangely enough, rubbing alcohol, the mysterious “poison ivy pills” and granular wash (look for Zanfel if you are so unfortunate!) are the best for actually drying up the blisters.  I’m hoping to heal and have some better luck soon!

  1. I used to get poison ivy every summer until I finally learned what it looks like and haven’t had it since.

I recall using rubbing alcohol as well. There was an acne medication that I recall helping to dry the blisters, but I can’t remember the name of it for the life of me.

I do recommend getting the strongest antihistamine you can find.

  2. Good luck with getting rid of the ivy! I use to struggle with it for years and I have to admit that it eventually get’s better as you age. I don’t know if you become more immune or what? Anyway, now It only bubbles up in little spots instead of taking over my whole body and driving me nuts day and night! I remember many times where I would have to put gauze on my arm or leg because the infected area was so large, people at the coffee shop as I handed them their mocha had to be scared, many thought I burned my self as it ooozed all over….Eeewww… Oh, have you tried an oatmeal bath, it dries it up, supposedly!

Good to read that your life is good (other than the ivy) and I wish you the best in all of your endeavors!
